Picnic

Lindsey was the first one up, of course, around 5:15. Hopefully her sleep schedule will settle down soon. Of course, after it does, there will still be plenty of other things preventing me from sleeping in. We had abbreviated morning schoolwork today, followed by a working morning. Then for lunch we loaded up the kids into the minivan and drove down to the river – there’s a little park at the Newburgh dam & locks, maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The kids ran around and played on the swings and climbing stuff, we ate lunch, and we got to watch a tugboat and a bunch of barges go through the locks. Sadly, since 9/11 the whole working part of the area is behind fences and razor wire, so you can’t really get a look at the locks in action.

I tried to work in the afternoon, but spent much of it dealing with email and other detritus. Finally got a few hours coding in around dinner, making forward progress but not as much as I would have liked. Hopefully it will be a good working weekend.

For dinner, we had burgers on the grill and fruit. I harvested some basil from the garden and had pesto on top of mine as well.

Put the kids to bed – Lindsey included, with some protests – and then lifted weights for a while. I definitely have muscles that I didn’t have a couple of months ago; more importantly, my back is giving me less trouble.
