I was back at my desk around 6:30 this morning, and after waking up I composed the Weekend Reader column for Web Worker Daily. Pulling together lots of short links for that publication has become one of my continuing duties. Fortunately I scan enough sources that it’s fairly easy to come up with stuff.

I was back at it at 6AM this morning. It was a bit of an odd morning: for the first time ever (for me, anyhow) one of the Macs wouldn’t come out of sleep mode. I rebooted it and all was well, but it says something about the stability I’ve had from the Macs that this was so unusual.

I slept in, if you want to call it that, till about 6:30. This might have been a holiday, but that doesn’t mean the kids were on any different sleep schedule than usual.

Got up – on my own, for a small change – around 6AM, and was joined by Lindsey and Thomas around 7. Kayla wandered down a bit later, uncharacteristically late for her. She explained, “Since I was too busy with my dream, I couldn’t be the first one awake besides you.”

Lindsey got restless and woke me just before 6AM. I got her back to bed and got up myself, clearing my desk off to start the new day.

Lindsey was up for a wander around 3AM. With the new house, she finally has her own bedroom, and she’s been making the transition to her own bed. Most nights she’s been sleeping through, but last night she woke up and I had to go snuggle her back to bed. She went down again pretty easily, fortunately, and I slept through until the more sensible hour of 6:30 when I got up to update the usual pile of web sites.

After the whole family was awake this morning, we packed the kids up and headed out to the grocery store. I’d rather go grocery shopping during the week, when things are less busy, but Sunday morning wasn’t too bad….

Today I had intended to spend much of the day writing code. But as it happened, I spent most of it wrestling with our network setup instead….

Today we took advantage of the flexibility of being homeschoolers and declared it a field trip day rather than doing regular classwork. After everyone was up and fed (I had to drag Adam out of bed), we headed out to the Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville to take advantage of our zoo memberships….

After breakfasts & the usual round of morning stuff, we ran into Colfax for what might (we hope) be our last round of pre-moving errands. This included a trip to the bank to close down a bunch of accounts, and a last round of grocery shopping. One more week of nights in this house and then it’s off to hotels for a bit….
