Every once in a while I have a day that never seems to get out of first gear. This was one of those days. After I was awake and younger kids fed, I ran out to do the grocery shopping, which took up a chunk of morning. Then I did some light schoolwork with the kids and turned my attention to my desk.

First order of business today was to send out bills. Despite a couple days in the woods, it was our best billable month ever, so that’s good. I also had to spend some time on dunning, which is bad. I guess it all balances out.

The last day of the month was all about code deadlines for me. I was up at 4AM or so (still not sleeping excessively well) and at the computer shortly afterwards. And there I stayed for the rest of the day, with only short breaks for things like schoolwork and dinner….
MoreToday was pretty much just solid wall-to-wall work. Oh, there were times when I managed to step outside for a moment to harvest a ripe tomato, and of course schoolwork, but for the most part I was either writing code or (more) dealing with clients.

It was a pretty Mondayish Monday here. On top of my usual aches and pains, the insect bites (and I suspect one tiny patch of poison ivy) that I picked up over the weekend are itching like mad, and so my sleep was more than normally disrupted. I gave up and got out of bed around 4AM and started doing client work.

We had lots of fun, tempered by some overtired moments, sunburn, and bug bites….
MoreFirst order of business today (after the usual round of project-related email) was grocery shopping. Lots of grocery shopping. The kids are having a “Mexican Fiesta” tomorrow for some of their friends (hello, home-schooling) and we’re going camping this weekend. Didn’t quite break the bank, but it was one of the larger grocery bills we’ve had recently.

It was “back to school” day around here again. Fortunately the kids all got right back into the swing of things with little fuss, and we had an unstressful morning. I think they even missed a few of their classes.

It’s back to school week, but we had no classes today thanks to our family tradition of treating birthdays as holidays. Thomas turned six today, and everyone appreciated the break.

Father’s Day started out much like any other day around here; it’s hard to get breakfast in bed when you’re the first one up. Eventually the kids delivered hand-made cards and hugs, though, which was plenty to keep me happy.
