Another week of summer camps started this morning, with Thomas and Lindsey in separate YMCA camps, so Dana and I both got to do some driving around. I also did a little bit of schoolwork with the older two (notably extracting DNA from some ground beef, which they thought was pretty nifty).

Another morning of bookkeeping has me closer to caught up. At least the stack of paper on my desktop is much below the level of my monitor now.

Today started with a 5:30AM phone call from one of my clients. Some times you just can’t escape. After that, I spent a good chunk of the morning hacking through the thicket of paperwork on my desk and paying bills.

Dana was off to a Girl Scout meeting bright and early, so I kept the schoolwork light this morning. We’re not so much having a summer vacation as a summer cutback, but whatever, on the days that we do less the kids are content to run around and play. And they still read, so it’s all good.

Today was another day of almost purely managerial work. We took it fairly easy in school this morning; for the most part, I just had the kids do some reading in the books that they checked out yesterday, and chat about what they’d learned.

For today’s schoolwork we made a trip to the local library. The kids always enjoy this, and today we came home loaded with books about ancient Greece, Roman mythology, Lewis and Clark, and other goodies. That’ll take care of the next few days academics for sure.

It was a pretty uneventful morning. We had school, of course, and no one complained too much about that. Kids were even up at a reasonable hour despite last night’s war zone, so we got my part of schooling done well before lunch. Dana took Adam and Lindsey down to the Y for swim lessons while I fed the other two.

We didn’t do anything in particular for the 4th, other than relax a bit. I wrote some code, but I also took a big chunk of the evening off. Not that I wanted to shoot off fireworks; the neighbors were doing a good enough job of threatening to burn down the area without me.
…
Most of today just went for grinding along on a few code projects. There are a couple where we have to execute and deliver this month, and at least one is behind schedule. I’m still a “lead by example” kind of manager (which may be a failing), so I rolled up my sleeves and wrote some of the tricky code today.
