Nothing Day (Saturday, August 28, 2010)

This was one of those days when my brain just largely refused to work. I got a few hours in one one project and poked at a couple of others, but much of my day was spent just reading. Been too many weeks without a day off, I guess.

Normal Day (Thursday, August 26, 2010)

Inasmuch as we have regular school days, we had one today. Kids all did well, Adam started in on a new geometry book, we had our usual mix of math and science and reading and history and whatnot. I’ve also started the kids on some light exercises for PE, and amazingly enough it’s become one of their favorite classes.

Chinese Dinner (Wednesday, August 25, 2010)

Another fine day of coding and phone calls, with schoolwork in between. We actually got a pretty late start on school today because Kayla had a doctor’s appointment and we waited for her to get home. But no one really minded this flexibility, and they got through work pretty easily once we got started.

Pack Meeting (Tuesday, August 24, 2010)

Schoolwork had to work around a few phone calls this morning, but at least it got done. Somehow it seems to be increasingly difficult to get through everything that has to get packed into a day.

Phone Time (Monday, August 23, 2010)

It was another Monday on the phone for me, with some running around thrown in for some good measure. We got in a bit of schoolwork before that happened, but most of my day was spent on half a dozen client calls – a mix of meetings on existing projects and sales for potential new ones.

Load Testing (Saturday, August 21, 2010)

Today was pretty much “back to the salt mines” for me, with two coding projects occupying my time. One is the current huge one that’s been keeping me busy, another is older code that’s come back for another round of improvements. There was also plenty of management work, including three longish phone calls. I’m still close to having enough work to spend my time exclusively on management, but not quite there.

Skating (Friday, August 20, 2010)

Today started out with the usual flurry of email followed by schoolwork. We spent some time during school on a new subject: PE. Adam is working on his Athletics activity badge for Webelos, and so needs to get doing some daily exercise, and the other kids thought it was a lark to participate too. We’ll see if this lasts.

Still alive (Thursday, August 19, 2010)

Yes, I’m still alive. But things haven’t eased up at all on the work front – it’s still a whirlwind of mostly coding all day every day. At the moment it looks like the current schedule and pressure will last for about another six weeks, which should be tiring but well-paid.

Cake for Breakfast (Saturday, August 14, 2010)

It was another day of mostly cranking on code. It was also Adam’s actual 10th birthday (how did THAT happen?), but as we’ve had several days of celebration this was pretty low key. He did have birthday cake for breakfast.

Holiday World (Thursday, August 12, 2010)

My day started a bit before 5 with some coding. This carried me through a few hours until everyone was awake, at which point the main event for the day started: Adam’s birthday expedition. This year he wanted to go to Holiday World, so off we went with all the kids and a couple of friends.
