Ship Day

Today started very early – 2AM early. That’s because the huge update to one client site was finally ready to deploy, and there was a big data migration to do, and we wanted to limit peak time downtime. So I kicked the process off at 2, napped a bit from 3 to 4, and then was up for the rest of the day.

Migration finally finished just after lunch, and so far the new code looks solid. Meanwhile, I was writing code for other projects, as well as handling some sales and management issues. Business is still moving along, though it’s actually slowed down somewhat from the pace of last month.

There was homeschool work in there somewhere too. A couple of new books have shown up for Adam, so I’ve got new lesson planning to do, and of course everyone else is moving along well with their classes. All the effort is worth it when I compare our kids with their peers in terms of what they know and especially how well they read and reason.

I gave up working in mid-afternoon when I was too tired to really comprehend code. The rest of the day went for cleaning up some paperwork, making dinner (flank steak stir fry with rice), sketching out some web site designs, and then putting myself and the kids to bed.
