Bad Dinner

The day started off with five inches of snow piled up from overnight. The local schools cancelled classes (amusingly, even though it was a holiday it was supposed to be a school day to make up for other snow days earlier in the year), the Girl Scouts cancelled cookie pickup, and we declared a no-school day as well. Kids happily played while parents wrote code together.

Most of my morning went for catch-up coding on a project that didn’t get the attention that it should have this weekend. After lunch I spent an hour on the phone giving a demo to that customer, who is still happy with us, so it was time well spent. Then I worked on a few other projects while Dana braved the snow to run a few errands (fortunately, the main roads were clear even though our block has never once been plowed).

For dinner, we went out to Turoni’s, a new restaurant that’s opened locally to great fanfare. It was a grave disappointment: slow service, slow kitchen, three mistakes on our order, double-billing on the bill, and not even an apology from the manager, far less any attempt to put things right. It was easily the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in years, and we won’t be going back. The beer was mediocre too.

Back home, we all had dessert to make up for our disappointment and wound down the day.
