Cake Bake

Today started off easily enough, with the kids sleeping in a bit and then moving into schoolwork. Meanwhile, I’m still juggling project management on a bunch of jobs, and dealing with some sales calls. It looks like my dance card will fill out for another month before the current work ends, which is good.

I chugged along through the afternoon, finishing up a huge data import task and turning back to application programming at last. Then I grabbed an early dinner (soup and salad for me, pizza for the kids) and switched over to pure dad mode for a few hours.

Tonight was the local cub scout pack’s annual cake bake. Dana helped Adam make and decorate a cake, but then she had to go to her karate class, so I took him to the meeting. And of course the other kids had to go somewhere, so they tagged along with me. Fortunately, the little ones were all well-behaved, because the pack meeting was not very well organized and dragged on for several hours.

In the end, we bought Adam’s cake back at the auction for $40 – making it one of the better bargains there. Others went for as high as $150 (the money all went to benefit Easter Seals, so obviously we were paying beyond the pure cake value). We bowed out while the last cakes were still on the block, and I got the kids to bed before a few minutes of email catchup and sleep for myself.
