Mindless Explosions

Adam was the first one up today – highly unusual. I came downstairs at 5:30 and found he’d already managed his own milk and cereal. A nice preview of eventually being able to sleep in a bit. The other kids wandered in soon enough, needing breakfasts, and I had my usual morning from that point on.

We had planned to let the kids play in the yard most of the day, but it rained for most of the 4th here. So instead they stayed in and chafed, while I wrote some code and some words. Got in a few billable hours while clients were (mostly) offline and caught up on some RailsBridge work, though didn’t get to the yardwork I’d hoped for either.

We had corned beef, fries, fresh green beans, and salad for dinner. Corned beef always goes over well here and everyone managed to clean their plates and get dessert.

Rain is no deterrent to the yahoos in this neighborhood, and the fireworks (with the associated rain of debris on our yard) started up before dusk. We let the kids stay up late and watch them from our back yard, and then eventually I read a few chapters of Ozma of Oz and put them to bed. I wasn’t far behind myself.
