Birthday Party

The severe weather alert went off at 1:30 this morning. I was sleeping so deeply that I answered three phones in my dream before I got up and turned it off (just another round of severe thunderstorms, fortunately).

I was up at 4:30 this morning, which enabled me to get a little bit of work done in the first part of the day. The main event, though, was Thomas’s 5th birthday party, which was the most elaborate we’ve put on (well, we don’t live in the boonies any more, and the kids have had time to make some friends).

He opened family presents in the morning, and then our kids played for a while. About 3PM we headed over to the tumbling center, where we had the actual party for a dozen kids. From there, I made a quick swing by the grocery store for more drinks (with two pre-teen girls along) and then it was back to our house for water fun, burgers, and hot dogs.

Of course, I was on grill duty, but that didn’t take too long. Most of the afternoon was spent interacting with kids and their parents. The birthday boy, ironically, ran out of steam completely around 5PM, took to his bed for “a short nap” and that was the last we saw of him.

Last parent & small child got out of here around 8:45, and I put the rest of our brood to bed for the night.
