Out to dinner

The last school day of the week was pretty unremarkable around here. Adam finally finished his mammoth Galileo report, clocking in around 16 pages of cursive writing. Next time we need to talk more about outlining and planning, I think. Today was also the first time Thomas and I sat down with a pile of Legos to start learning about addition. The first of the mesclun mix sprouted overnight, so I guess we really do have a vegetable garden. It’s been mighty wet the last few days; I hope the rest of the seeds manage to germinate.

After lunch, I ran out to make a bank deposit, and also visited our mail drop and made a quick pass through the grocery store to grab things. Then I just wrote code for the rest of the afternoon. Spent a lot of time on performance tuning of a site that’s being deployed, and it’s much happier now.

For dinner, we went out to a local restaurant that’s gotten good reviews, the Firefly Southern Grill. It was somewhat above average, but I wouldn’t class it as really good; I’ve been spoiled by actual good restaurants in big cities. But for a not too outrageous price, my fish fry was decent, and the kids ate well enough. Dana’s fried chicken was a disappointment though, and she thought the peach cobbler was frankly inedible.

Back home, I gave the kids a treat tonight, in the form of a campout in the sunroom (they’d recently gotten some sleeping bags as presents from Dana’s niece). Adam and Lindsey eventually both ended up back in their beds, but Thomas and Kayla were up till all hours, enjoying the novelty and a pair of flashlights.
