Earthquake!

Lindsey was awake at 4:30. That seemed just a bit too early to me, so I took her back to her bed and snuggled her. She was just going back to sleep when we got a moderately sizeable earthquake around 5AM (5.4 on the Richter scale, according to the USGS). That was it for sleep, for the baby and myself and Dana (who later managed to nap for a bit longer). The other kids slept right through it, though Adam did feel an aftershock around 10. So I ended up at my desk a bit early this morning, working through email and whatnot. This went on until a two-hour break to talk to landscapers around 9AM; we spent most of it discussing the work in our yard, and then moved to discussing the work needed on their web sites. This may end up going both ways.

I got through the rest of my absolutely necessary writing for the day, Dana fed the kids their lunches, and then we took them all off to the zoo for the afternoon. We had a good time there as usual. On the way home, we stopped to pick up our mail and to pick up Dana’s friend Darby, who is going with her to a karate tournament tomorrow. They have to leave at a reasonably early morning hour, so Darby spent the night with us.

After a bounce home, we took everyone out to dinner at our local buffet joint. Adam had read about oysters for homeschooling recently, and he wanted to try an oyster on the half-shell. He had the tiniest taste and pronounced that he didn’t care for it, but taste it he did.

After dinner, I managed to get a couple hours of actual coding work done before putting kids down for the night.
